Last Man Standing and Second Dawn Return‏
Posted By: Aftermath at 19:26pm

This coming weekend we are going to be running a Last Man Standing round on Sol. It has been a while since the last one so get ready for some fast paced action. There are a few special circumstances to remember for LMS rounds. Once you die you cannot respawn. All races start with every research completed. Alliances are disbanded once 50% of the game is dead.

Second Dawn is returning following a long absense. We have a new team in place, that will hopefully be able to begin tackling a few of the remaining bugs. Anyone playing Second Dawn would be doing the team a big favour if they could post any bugs on the SD section of the public forums.

Here are the details for the coming rounds:

Sol - LMS

Tick speed: 5 minute ticks
Signup starts: Thursday 2nd September 21:00 (GMT)
Ticks start: Friday 3rd September 21:00 (GMT)
Alliance setup: Sector alliances (2 alliances total)
Private spots: 3 per sector (3 sectors per alliance)
Ship limit: 14

Second Dawn

Signup starts: Monday 30th August 21:00 (GMT)
Ticks start: Tuesday 31st August 21:00 (GMT)
Alliance member limit: 7
Ship limit: 75

Enjoy!

We will be starting a new round of Protheus on Tuesday 31st August. We have been tweaking the current numbers for rewards so that they hopefully offer a better value in terms of resources per reward point.

If you missed the latest news post on the SF homepage, then you will have missed a preview of the new look SFv5. The preview can be found at http://demo.star-fury.org. Here are the details for the coming round:

Tick speed: 1 hour ticks
Signup starts: Tuesday 31st August 22:00 (GMT)
Ticks start: Thursday 2nd September 22:00 (GMT)
Newbie mode: 48 ticks
Alliance setup: Sector alliances
Private spots: 3 per sector (3 sectors per alliance)

For anyone waiting on news of Second-Dawn, we have the game setup now and are just testing things out to make sure everything is working as it should be. Expect an seperate announcement for SD shortly.

Officially introducing: SFv5
Posted By: Systems_Commonwealth at 17:56pm

What is SFv5?

SFv5, or, if you will, Star Fury version 5.0 is the next generation of star fury. It's something the entire team has worked on for the past several months and something that we hope will bring Star Fury into a new era.

For us it means a code restructure, everything's done to a better standard. validating HTML (unlike the current iteration which breaks when you add something as trivial as a doctype), a decent folder/file structure and a massive clean up of the code which has become rather spaghetti-like over the years with features being patched on by many different developers.

For you it means a better SF experience, we've gone the full hog and have (as many of you have already guessed) created a new user interface. We're also rolling in many bug fixes and improvements to the game.

What's next?

Quite simply SFv5.1, Due to the sheer amount of work involved in the original plan for SFv5, it'd take too long to get it all done in time for a release anytime soon so we've cut down the scope we're aiming for in SFv5 and have delegated some of the new features and changes to SFv5.1. There are many changes still in SFv5 but with all the back-end changes there's just too much that we want to do to get it all done at once! In upcoming versions you'll see even more changes to the front-end and the gameplay of Star Fury after we have finished getting everything done right.

When can I expect to see this, what can only be described as, masterpeice?

Well, we're not entirely sure on that. We had hoped to have it a few months after releasing the previews on the homepages unfortunately the sheer scale and magnitude of the project was under-estimated (and over budget as they say) and it's going to take a while longer. As we've stated before we've since scaled back our expectations of SFv5 and planned to have some things moved into SFv5.1

Why tell us now? You've been teasing us for months and it sounds like we're still some time from release
There's a few reasons for doing it now;
we want to let you know that we've not forgotten about SF, we're not ignoring your suggestions but in fact we are busy working hard on SFv5
we're at a stage where we have a good concrete plan and something physical to show you
we want to keep the buzz about SFv5 going and hopefully entice people to stick around.
we're cruel evil geniuses that like taunting you?

Come on then, What are you waiting for! I want to see it already!
well...okay, only because we like you (most of you), but a few things to remember:
There are only a few webpages that are working at the moment
Some of the pages that are there have not been re-worked to their final design and some won't be until SFv5.1
These pages are not functional! we've removed all functionality for the teaser
None of the links on the pages will work, It is a demo after all.

Gentle Reminder
Posted By: Systems_Commonwealth at 19:44pm

Just a few rules people seem to of forgotten, I'm posting here to make sure people are aware and to re-iterate our policies upon recent issues.

Your empire name must be appropriate for ALL ages, this include, but is not limited to: references to genitalia, drugs, and religion. By religious messages, you are permitted to have religious references in your name, however your name cannot impose your religious ideas upon other people.

Just to clear things up, The PedoPals alliance was indeed in breach of the first rule, we didn't respond to this in a timely manner and let it slip for the round. This will not happen again, We will respond to any empire names infringing on this rule, so don't come complaining to us when your empire name gets changed to "My Little Pony". If in doubt you can always ask the admins before creating.

Deleting and creating accounts in order to get into a specific sector is not allowed, and will result in being
banned.

It's not cool, It's not tolerated, It will get you banned from the round.

No player may have more than one account.
There is no excuse for breaching this rule so don't even try. If you breach this we will delete all your accounts, If you breach this more then once we will ban your passport account and look to ban you from SF entirely, including the forums, IRC and all other related services.

These are real simple, So simple that even Dom can understand and comprehend these, you are smarter then Dom, Right?

New Round of Sol - 3rd July‏
Posted By: Aftermath at 21:01pm

A new round of Sol will be starting on Saturday 3rd July. So you can all stop asking me when it is starting now! I'll keep it short, here are the details for the round:

Tick speed: 15 minutes
Signups start: Saturday 3rd July 21:00 (GMT)
Ticks start: Sunday 4th July 21:00 (GMT)
Newbie mode: 98 ticks
Alliance setup: Sector alliances
Private spots: 2 per sector (3 sectors per alliance)
Ship limit: 14

That 98 tick newbie mode is only for the initial newbie mode. Once newbie mode ends for the bulk of players it will be cut down to 48 ticks again.

Another note for anyone playing Protheus, we are having a competition to win some reward points. Details can be found in the SF General section of the public forums.

Enjoy!
